ABOUT

Finca Takesi sits on the steep slopes of the Royal Mountain ranges in the Bolivian Andes, spanning 2,500 hectares between 1900 and 3200 masl. This year marks our ninth year of direct trade with Mariana and her team, a relationship held by only a few roasters worldwide and one we value deeply. Java returns to our menu alongside the renowned Takesi Geisha, each variety highlighting a different side of Bolivian coffee at its finest.

Java is often associated with the broad, low‚Äëquality coffees produced on the Indonesian island of the same name, where large estates and inconsistent processing have shaped its reputation. Yet the variety itself has a far more interesting origin. Some of the coffee introduced to Java by the Dutch in the 1600s has been genetically linked to an Ethiopian variety called Abyssinia. When grown at altitude and processed with care, it shows vibrant, clean and aromatic character. Its resilience to disease and low input requirements have also made it valuable for smallholder producers.

Finca Takesi offers the ideal environment for this variety to shine. Extreme elevation, rich soils and meticulous processing have produced the finest Java we have tasted. This is the third year Takesi has released commercial volumes to us, and we are one of only two roasters globally with access. The result is a fragrant, structured and highly expressive coffee that challenges expectations and showcases the remarkable potential of this historic variety.
